Globalization: What is it and why is it important?

Update – Wednesday Afternoon
I’m sorry that missed you all again today, but I found out on my way to school this morning that my baby daughter would be released from the hospital today to come home. I will see you tomorrow. As you learned in class today, I am extending the blog deadline until Friday morning at 9:30 am. Make sure you read the next paragraph before beginning your assignment.

Most that have commented have done a pretty good job. However, some have missed the point that I made about writing a short essay response. In other words – 2 or 3 sentences just does not get it. Exercise your brains and give me some great comments. This is not a completion exercise. I am looking for evidence of real thought. Every one of you has the ability to do quality work, but ability is worth nothing unless it’s put to use.

Beginning of Post

On Monday, you were assigned pages 101-106 to read as classwork - Time Reports: Our Shrinking World.

Combine what you learned from the Time Reports section with topics we have discussed in class concerning globalization - things such as cultural diffusion, emigration, and the movement of jobs and industries to other countries (Chapter 3 will be helpful here). After analyzing all of this information, write a thoughtful comment that addresses the following questions. Please do not feel that you are limited to just these questions. You can also include any well thought out ideas of your own.

  1. What is globalization?
  2. What are some of the benefits of globalization, for both Americans and non-Americans?
  3. Is globalization good for everyone? If not, who suffers in a globalized world?
  4. What are some of the things that young people today will have to do to prepare for life in a globalized world?

Very Important:
Your comment should consist of a well-written mini-essay. IM slang or abbreviations will not be accepted. Be careful to use proper grammar, correct spelling, and academic language.

Your comments must be posted by 9:30 am, on Thursday, November 8. Late comments will earn no more than half credit.

Do not hesitate to research the topic further. There is much information available online dealing with globalization. Try a Google or Yahoo search.

1. What is globalization? Globalization is the entire world being connected because we now have internet, supersonic jets and other technology that help move information and things very quickly from one country to another.

2. What are some of the benefits of globalization, for both Americans and non-Americans? For Americans we can get many services and products much cheaper. For non-American countries they make more money because we are buying the goods and services they provide.

3. Is globalization good for everyone? If not, who suffers in a globalized world? Globalization in not good for everyone, However, it does not cause suffering. It does tend to keep poorer countries on the bottom because they are not able to keep up with the pace of technology. Globalization can negatively affect society because each culture can lose what makes it unique. With free flow of information, everyone can become more educated. This should mean that everyone can be more prosperous.

4. What are some of the things that young people today will have to do to prepare for life in a globalized world? To prepare for life in a globalized world, we must develop a good understanding of the new technologies and how it will benefit us. Also, globalization should raise awareness of how we can help others in the less wealthy countries. We will need to understand the importance of cultural diversity and not lose our cultural identity to a world identity.

1. Globalazation is the increasing interconnectedness of people and places as a result of advances in transport, communication, and information technologies that cause political, economic, and cultural convergence.

2.Since globalization means advances in transportation and communication, you can see or talk to other non-Americans or Americans.

3.Yes, it's good for everyone to me. Why wouldn't be benifial to other countries?

4. They use the computer and the Internet to research for economic issues.

1) Globalization is the spreading of information and technology around the world. Globalization is also the interconnecting of economies, people, and culture.
2) Some of the benefits of globalization for both Americans and non-Americans are that technology and medicine are spread around the world. Also there is access to more food and products (sometimes cheaper ones too).
3) Globalization is not good for everyone, this is because now instead of competing only with the other people of the type of job you want in your country, you have to compete with the whole world. Also in some places the money can move, but the people can’t, meaning that there are less jobs. Also, countries where labor is cheaper are hired by companies more often than not, even though they are sometimes on the other side of the world. This causes problems because the people who work for reasonable prices then lose their jobs.
4) Some of the things that young people of today will have to do to prepare for life in a globalized world are studying extra hard so that you have more of a chanced to get the good jobs; also young people need to learn about countries’ cultures. Another thing they need to do is to learn languages, so that they can communicate with different people from different places.

What is globalization? It is how all of the world is combined and how we work together
What are some of the benefits of globalization, for both Americans and non-Americans? Food, money, products and more. It will help them get money by exporting their own products
Is globalization good for everyone? If not, who suffers in a globalized world? I personally believe that globalization is good for all
What are some of the things that young people today will have to do to prepare for life in a globalized world? They will have to learn about new countries, they need to know what each contry exports and imports.

Globalization is the development of a world culture and an interdependent world economy. Globalization is very important because it's was holds all the countries together. Also if there was no globalization most of the country's factories and jobs would be demolished because they don't have the right supplies.

Globalization is the process of ideas and cultural beliefs being spread around.
Globalization helps countries to gain better economies by making trade agreements and helping people find jobs. Ultimately, countries come closer together, because they have formed relationships with other countries. Both Americans and non-Americans can communicate and trade today, due to globalization.
Globalization can also be harmful though, because it can start to block out poorer countries that take longer to advance economically. Richer countries tend to trade with each other, because richer countries usually have better access to resources and trading.
Because of the constant globalization going on today, people in the future will not only have to put an effort foward for learning about other cultures, but also need to be more accepting about people different than them. Globalization has brought countries of the world together, and if people do not start to learn and respect other cultures, globalization could turn out to be not as great as some think.

holá señor veliz!! ok so globalization....
1. Globalization is, in definition terms, development of a world culture and an interdependent world economy. In other words, globalization is the world's people and their ways interacting together.
2. Centuries ago, someone from america would have zero knowledge about the culture of, say, china. Now, we can simply look around a room to find a hundred things made in china. Many americans can speak spanish, and many mexicans can speak english. i agree with josh. we do get cheaper service with other countries. we import thousands of products each day from other countries, so those countries are beneficiaries of globalization as well-the more we import, the more money they make.
3. i think globalization is good for mostly everyone. there could be some debate about this because of the poorer countries that are left in the dust because they dont make the best products or enough of them to make a lot of money. Also, now if you want that big job or role, you must are competing not only with your local area...but the entire world.
4. The young people of today need to be interactive with the whole world and knowledgable about it. But at the same time, we need to keep our cultures separted to some extent. America's cultures are our own, just like zimbabwe has cultures that can stay iminent within zimbabwe. We can't forget the old ways or toss them away just for globalization's sake. But this generation of young people must be familiar with the world.

Globalization is the world being connected and information being spreaded around the world.

The benifits of globalization for both Americans and non-americans is food because now that technology has been invented countries in need of our resources can now call or email the u.s and we can send ship goods, clothing and whatever other countries need.

Globalization is not always healthy for other countries because now industialized countries have more to trade than developing countries like some parts of asia most parts of Africa and many other financially challenged countries. In Those kind of countries people are surviving on less than two dollars a day and those countries are barely able to create new jobs at all. The cause? its the wealthy countries that would rather put their factories in other wealthy countries rather than to help the suffering countries that is what is killing more people every day.
